EAGLE WORKS FOUR [additional concepts]

(Even more stuff that never was from the Eagles Timeline...)

In "our" grand thinking, the Eagles Universe was to expand beyond just novel-size works.  Fellow EU founder Kerwin S. Ivey and I dreamed up numerous projects over the years.  Among these were to be a set of short story anthologies chronicling the lives and adventures of a certain class of peoples (of varying species) within the Eagles Universe's primary setting: The Great Spiral Galaxy (a.k.a. the Milky Way).  Dubbed "Star Raiders" (after a certain "antique" video game), these people were our version of a galactic underworld with assassins, bounty hunters, mercenaries, pirates, prospectors, scavengers, smugglers, traders, treasure hunters, etc.  As can be seen from this occupational list, not every star raider was a criminal, though many individuals could hold titles on both sides of law and order.

Another member of our EU clique was Charles "Chuck" Johnson, the creator of both the Timothy Jackson character and the Mackmarion insectoid species.  He was to collaborate with us on some of the short stories, especially ones focusing on his "Captain Jackson".  Eric Dodson, our newest member and creator of the cover art for the original Rise of the Eagles novel of 2003, was set to also assist in the development of these anthologies and other projects.

TALES OF THE STAR RAIDERS

Throughout the history of interstellar travel, star raiders have roamed deep space.  These often daredevil, yet enterprising free spirits have existed in numerous forms.  Many start off as thrill seeking adventurers trying to find their fortunes.  Some become traders, prospectors, or smugglers.  A few operate as mercenaries or bounty hunters.  Others fall in with pirates or slavers.  Whatever their chosen niche, star raiders are undeniably the most glamorized individuals in the annals of galactic history.  Here are five adventures of five of the most famous – and infamous – beings to raid the stars.

THE B-MAN JOURNALS

A series of short stories based on B-Man's space adventures during the New Sorcerer Era.

ESCAPE FROM DUNMAX VIII

Intrepid star raider B-Man of Triaxa was captured and sent to Dunmax VIII – now a prison planet for the New Sorcerer Empire.  Unbeknownst to the Dark Lords, the son of the late Shadow Lord Keidon had previously maintained a secret hideout on Dunmax.  He spends years tucked away in this hidden redoubt on the edge of the sprawling underground city-warrens.  Using spare parts and materials scavenged occasionally from the prison-city, B-Man successfully engineers a new spaceship to attempt an escape from Dunmax VIII.  However, the bounty hunter-turned traitor Red Shadow stands in his way...

ENFORCERS AT RANGE WORLD

ENFORCER: a sentient machine built by the New Sorcerer Empire to hunt down and capture or destroy Kreeos wielding individuals.  Rumored to possess the life essence of powerful Kreeos forevermen, these demonic devices serve as Imperial protectors against Kreeos based threats.  After escaping Dunmax VIII, B-Man journeys to Range World in search of his lifelong friend Kreeos master Kayless.  Enforcers have been dispatched.  Their mission: to locate and kill B-Man – and all associated with him.

ENCOUNTER WITH RUNNING BEAR

Following his near death on Range World, B-Man manages to travel to distant Melnin, former capital of the fallen Bright Empire.  He has a chance encounter with another old friend, Captain Quincy Running Bear.  The space trader from Alpha Christina convinces B-Man to accompany him on a quest to find the ancient lost treasure of the fabled pirate gang The Waylayers.  Before they can depart Melnin, the pair faces off against the cyborg nightmare of a resurrected Red Shadow.

SORCERER DOWN

Vowing to continue Running Bear's quest, B-Man journeys alone to the far edge of East Quadrant.  After weeks of fruitless searching, he discovers a derelict Melnin starship on an uncharted desert world.  B-Man learns that back during the Great Galactic Upheaval, the vessel – with the dubious name of Sorcerer – had also been in search of the Waylayers' secret stronghold.  Its crew long dead from an alien virus, B-Man decides to repair Sorcerer and attempt to fly her off the planet.  He doesn't realize at first that the job might take years.

THE WAYLAYERS’ SECRET

B-Man eventually succeeds in getting Sorcerer to fly again.  While exploring the ship's computer files during the repairs, he discovers new data that can further his search for the Waylayers.  Once in space, B-Man survives a severe ion storm, maintains quirky ship's systems, and evades a prowling gun cruiser of the New Sorcerer Empire.  He and Sorcerer locate the legendary hideout and its treacherous vaults of unbelievable treasure.  Also found is another secret of the long-gone pirates – the location of a second stronghold.

RETURN TO TRIAXA

B-Man's home world had been betrayed by Shadow Lord Jager and stripped of its advanced technology by the Dark Lords.  Once one of the most powerful planets in the galaxy, Triaxa now lay in squalor and ruin – all but forgotten by the New Sorcerer Empire.  The infamous star raider returns with a starship loaded to near bursting with recovered pirate treasure.  The corrupt local government’s attempts to steal the wealth forces B-Man to gather a following of citizens willing to brave deep space – in the face of the Empire's ban on interstellar travel.

ON TO BARON’S WORLD

Unable to help his downtrodden home planet, a heartbroken B-Man sadly leads a group of followers away from Triaxa.  Facing destruction by the New Sorcerer Empire if caught, the star raider and his followers sail across the galaxy to the uncharted fringes of East Quadrant.  However, their destination is not entirely unknown.  B-Man's goal is to establish a colony at The Waylayers' second hideout – a beautifully lush planet called Baron's World.

Other Eagles projects considered was a series of comic books and even graphic novels.  With myself serving as Executive Editor, most of the story development would go to Kerwin while Eric would produce the artwork.  Much of the source material was to come from the Star Raider anthologies.  Unfortunately, there are no surviving synopses from Marcus Titan, More Tales of the Star Raiders, or The Star Raider Kingdom.

Ivey.  Others were to be written by myself or co-authored with EU member Charles "Chuck" Johnson.
